Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is a hilarious computer-animated musical comedy film based upon the beloved children’s book of the same name. The Lorax, which Theodore “Dr. Suess” named as his favorite work, was brought to life in stunning detail by Chris Meledrandri and his acclaimed film-making team at Illumination Entertainment. It is the third film created by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, HOP).
The movie takes place in Thneedville, a city where all things are fake and made of plastic. Everything is new and manufactured, including the flowers and trees. Each plastic tree comes alive (lights up) using 96 batteries. The town is completely without nature and the community people like it that way. The water is toxic from all the chemicals, making anything that swims in it glow, and the air is so polluted it has to be bought from zillionaire Aloysius O’Hare. It is every environmentalist’s worst nightmare!
Ted Wiggins (voice of Zac Efron), a twelve-year-old boy who lives in Thneedville, sets out to find a real live Truffula Tree in order to win the affections of Audrey (voice of Taylor Swift) –the girl of his dreams. He gets advice from his spunky grandmother (Betty White) to visit the Once-ler (Ed Helms), the man that knows what happened to the real trees. On his journey to speak to the Once-ler, Ted discovers his town is closed off from the outside world, which happened to be nothing but a contaminated smelly wasteland. After hearing the Once-ler tell his story about why there is no trees, Ted learns of the Lorax (Danny DeVito) — the grumpy, yet charming, guardian of the forest who speaks for the trees!
My family received an advanced Blu-ray copy of the Lorax for review. We totally adored the film! It offers everything you could imagine a Dr. Seuss’ movie to have. The humorous rhymes, quirky songs, and breathtaking splashes of color—it is all there! The motion picture adaptation used some of the best quotes from the original book and the marvelous moral lesson not to waste precious resources and protect nature comes across in amazing visual detail. LOVED IT! It is a must see for all ages.

What a great idea for kids entertainment & a shift from Disney themes. We love it! The actors are perfect and their voices are so distinctive. Love the artwork. We put this on my Mimi & Sky Studio FB page to promote it as it’s a not scary way for kids to become aware and learn about ecology/conservationism as eventually they are who will be working things out as adults!
