I received an advanced Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for review a couple of weeks ago and sat down to watch the family adventure. The movie takes place in Paris, 1910, and follows Roule (Adam Goldberg)a big-mouth delivery driver and wacky inventor along with his love-struck daydreaming camera friend Emile(Jay Harrington).
The two set out to make a peat delivery to the Professor at the Botanical Gardens. Upon their arrival they discover the professor is away and are greeted by his primate assistant botanist named Charles. Roule, taking advantage of the opportunity to explore the lab in the Professor’s absence, begins experimenting with some of the harebrained potions. The mixture “Atomize-a-Tune” causes Charles to develop a perfect melodious voice and the unstable “Super-Fertiliser” dropped on a sunflower seed develops into a 50 foot sunflower plant. But things really become interesting when Roule tries to push back the giant flower with a rake and it accidentally flies through the air hitting the vials, creating a momentous explosion. Once the smoke begins to subside, Emile realizes they aren’t alone! The strange concoction produced a seven foot hideous monster that breaks out of the lab and bounces across the roof tops striking terror into the citizens of Paris.
Later you find out Francoeur (Sean Lennon), the monster, was a minuscule flea living peacefully on the back of Charles until Roule’s recklessness turns him into “A Monster In Paris.” He drops onto the doorstep of Lucille (Vanessa Paradis), a pretty and feisty star of The Rare Bird cabaret. She soon discovers Francoeur (name meaning honest heart) is harboring talents and helps conceal his identity from the police behind a beautiful singing voice and stage presence. Once Roule and Emile learn the giant flea couldn’t hurt a tiny fly they agree to aide in Lucille’s efforts of protecting Francoeur from Commissioner Maynott’s (Danny Huston) monster hunt!
“A Monster In Paris” is a charming film with the unique message of “unexpected friendship and the infectious power of song.” However, the story is unlikely to appeal to young viewers who will more than likely lose interest in the movie after the first few minutes. My five year old enjoyed the scenes with the gigantic flea, but gradually became less enthused in the storyline as the movie progressed. There are many opportunities within the movie to show potential, though it fell flat upon execution.
The imagery in the movie was spectacular at times with the feel of nostalgic Paris and gave a twisted Frankenstein impression. Yet, the overall 3D experience was lacking featuring minimal out-of-screen protrusions. There were many chances to really excel with eye-popping 3D depth perception like the growing sunflower or monstrous flea leaping through Paris, nevertheless it failed to impress me. In my opinion, I could have been satisfied watching the film in plain Blu-ray, since it offers about the same picture experience.
Conclusion, “A Monster In Paris” is a delight and a wonderful family movie. The internationally acclaimed motion picture is a must see for its distinct theme, enchanting characters, and beautiful music.

SYNOPSIS
A wacky inventor, his camera-crazy best friend and a madcap monkey make a massive mistake when let loose in a mad scientist’s laboratory. With lotions and potions spilling everywhere, the troublesome trio accidentally creates Franc, the product of a reaction between a common flea and one of the scientist’s mystery concoctions. What they fail to realize, however, is that this ‘monster’ is actually a soft-centered soul with an astounding talent for music.
With the help of an enchanting nightclub singer Lucille, Franc becomes the talk of the town, just as stories of Paris’s newest monster attract the attention of the egotistical police commissioner, hell bent on securing a big prize to help his battle to become mayor. The unwitting scientists and the singer must team up to protect Franc, a monster with more than a musical career to protect!
