One of my favorite things about travelling around the world is getting to experience the beautiful beaches. After all, there are some gorgeous beaches that should be on your bucket list. Here are just a few you need to visit while you are on your travels, including the infamous Fraser Beach in Queensland. However, if you are going to the beach while you are on your travels, you need to ensure you are prepared. After all, some beaches have certain rules in place such as no bikinis! Or you might end up on a nudist beach without realizing if you don’t research properly! Therefore, here are 11 things to consider before hitting the beach on your travels.
Have you packed some eye protection?
One of the best things about hitting the beach while you are on your travels is you get to sunbathe and work on your tan. After all, if there is great weather, you can easily get a beautiful tan. However, if you are going to sit for hours in the sun, you need to make sure your eyes are protected. After all, extended exposure to the sun’s UV rays has been linked to eye damage. People can suffer from disorders such as cataracts and pterygia if they don’t cover up their eyes when they are in direct view of sun rays. Therefore, it’s so important that you bring a good pair of sunglasses with you. Don’t just choose a pair as they are cheap or fashionable; they need to have good support against the UV rays from the sun. After all, if they are cheap, they are likely to do just as much damage as not wearing any at all! Therefore, invest in a good pair to keep your eyes protected when hitting the beach.
What will you sit on?
If you discover a fantastic beach while on your travels, you want to be able to sit down and soak some rays without spending a fortune. But hiring a sun lounger will cost you a small fortune, even if it’s just for a few hours! Therefore, in your bag, you need to ensure you take a beach towel with you. You could get a round beach towel; they are ideal for allowing you to have plenty of space to relax on the beach. After all, with a traditional one, you will have to keep moving it so you don’t end up face planting the sand! Also, a cute round beach towel is on trend, so wherever you are in the world, you will be making a statement. You can find round beach towels on many sites online. And the best thing about them is they can double up as a cover up when you need to leave the beach!
How will you cope with insects?
You need to make sure you look online to check about insects before you hit the beach. Some beaches, in particular, can be a haven for different insects such as mosquitoes. For example, if you are visiting the Caribbean, you are likely to spot more of the annoying insects. There can be even more of them if it’s a very hot day! To protect you from getting bitten, you should ensure you have plenty of mosquito spray packed before you hit the beach on your travels. You might not have heard of sand fleas, but they can also be an issue in some countries. Therefore, take some insect repellent to ensure you stay bite-free while you are travelling!
What will you wear?
If you come across a beach while you are travelling, you need to make sure you have something to wear. After all, it’s never fun putting your toes in the sea while you are wearing jeans! Therefore, make sure you pack a swimsuit or bikini with you to wear on the beach. That way, you will be able to top up your tan while you explore your new surroundings. It also means you can stay on trend while you are going for a swim. Check out this article for a few items you need if you want to get your beach wardrobe ready!
How will you keep entertained?
A lot of people sit on the beach and sunbathe for a while. But after an hour or so, it’s easy to get bored. Therefore, to keep yourself entertained, you need to take a book with you so that you can have some fun reading! That way, you can expand your knowledge while catching some rays. It could even be a book on the area so that you find out some more about your surroundings. That way, you know where to travel to next on your trip!
Are your feet protected from the sand?
As well as bugs (which we discussed above), there are several other dangers to your feet when you hit the beach. For one thing, you need to check out the sand and its temperature before removing those flip flops! Otherwise, you could end up burning your feet if the sand is too hot. If you can, walk on the sand in the shade so that you don’t damage your tootsies. You might even want to go to a beach like Whitehaven Beach in Australia. The sand does not retain heat, so it is perfect for walking around barefoot! Also, make sure your sandals are good quality if it is a pebble beach. Otherwise, your feet are going to end up with cuts after you have been exploring.
Have you thought about the weather?
You need to make sure you are checking the weather before you hit the weather on your travels. After all, you don’t want to end up sitting on the beach in the middle of a storm! Therefore, before you decide whether to visit or not, you need to look online to get a good idea of what the weather will be like. It will also help you to know whether you should stay away if it’s going to be extremely hot. After all, you don’t want to leave the beach looking like a tomato!
What will you carry everything in?
It’s so important that you make sure you put everything you need for the beach in a bag before you hit the waves. But you need to be careful what you take with you when you go to the beach on your travels. After all, you may slip into a snooze while on the beach, and your items could all end up being stolen. Therefore, leave valuable items in a locked safe back at your hostel. Also, make sure you purchase a beach bag which has a zip that you tightly shut before you do hit the beach. That way, nobody can take any of your belongings while you are walking around. And as this article explains, you might want to choose a dry bag which will have been sealed in a watertight manner. That way, your belongings inside the bag will stay dry while you go into the sea!
Have you checked the rules?
You need to make sure you check the laws and regulations before you hit any beaches on your travels. For example, on particular beaches in Dubai, it’s a must that women cover up. Therefore, if you turn up in a swimsuit, you could potentially get in trouble with the law. Also, make sure you follow any rules that are in place about the sea. If they say, the waves are dangerous after a particular time, don’t risk swimming out too late! Therefore, read up online or ask the locals before you hit the beach.
Will you do any water sports while you are there?
A lot of people regret not trying water sports while they are on the beach. After all, there is nothing quite like water skiing or wind surfing on a gorgeous beach. But people’s fears often get in the way of an amazing experience. Therefore, if you do hit the beach on your travels, you need to make sure you give some form of water sport a go. For example, if you hit the Great Barrier Reef, you need to go diving, so that you can see all the beautiful sea life!
Have you got plenty of water?
It’s so important that you make sure you keep hydrated while you are on the beach. After all, it’s so easy to become dehydrated after an hour or two in the hot sun. Therefore, make sure you take some bottles of water with you if you are going to stop at the beach during your travels. It will ensure you don’t end up getting sunstroke after being in the sun for too long!
And remember to check out what the sea is like before you take a dip. For example, if you hit the Atlantic Ocean, it’s going to be a lot colder than the lovely warm water in the Mediterranean!
