Review

Hickory Farms, through Mom Central, selected me as a brand ambassador for the Hickory Farms Blog Tour and I was sent a Perfect Picnic Gift Basket and a Home for the Holidays Gift Box to enjoy and share with my family.  When I opened up the boxes and began viewing all the delicious contents I felt Christmas had come to my home a bit early and was thrilled with the fine selection of gourmet meats and cheeses.  I plan on serving them at my family gatherings on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve as we watch festive movies, tell stories, and build memories together.  That is if I can keep my hubby from digging into the goodies while I’m not looking!

    A holiday gift-giving tradition we have which I adore is that my husband’s grandmother sends us a box of Enstroms almond toffee which is to die for! My husband & I also aim to open just one gift on Xmas gift, but he usually makes me open more than one even though I keep refusing!

    My favorite holiday tradition is on Christmas Eve we go out and deliver a Christmas gift basket to a stranger. I usually grab a few Santas, nutcrackers,and Christmas candles at the Christmas sale the the following year I place them in a basket along with a variety of baked goods (I attach the recipe to each item–to avoid any food allergies) then we include a card telling about our Christmas tradition–and the hope that some day they may pass it on. On Christmas eve we go out (usually in our pj’s and jackets) and find a poor deserving sole and deliver it –toll booth operator, police officer, drive through worker anyone we see-that we think could use the Christmas cheer.

    We have stopped doing adult presents because it got WAY out of hand. Once the kids got past the Santa stage, we would have just their presents under the tree Christmas Eve. They would go to bed and then I’d pull out all the adult presents and put them under the tree. One year I was stunned to see that there were as many adult presents as kid presents. And this is all for people who don’t want or need anything, complain about having to do Christmas shopping, nag me for ideas about what to get everyone else, and one particular person who thinks quantity is more important that quality, so she buys out the Dollar Store and gives us all of that. For my own children who are quickly becoming adults, I would like to change things so that we cut back somewhat on what we give them, but then just give us one thoughtful present. My daughter is receptive to this idea, so I’ll just have to see what my son says.
