Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Review & Giveaway!

Walt Disney Studios Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides hit shelves, October 18th! YEAH!  I’m a huge Johnny Depp fan (especially when he plays Jack Sparrow) and couldn’t wait for this film to be released!  The movie was a smash hit grossing over $1 billion globally at the Worldwide Box Office and now can be viewed at home in stunning high definition Blu-ray, eye popping Blu-ray 3D, and Movie Download.

I finally watched the movie for the first time yesterday on Blu-ray.  I’ve seen Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, and At World’s End, so I was expecting On Stranger Tides to be as thrilling as the first three films.  Was I disappointed? In some ways yes, in others no.  The first three films were packed with scenes of jaw dropping  effects and engaging characters. Yet, the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean contained fewer visual effects, but had a bit  more in storyline  substance and focused on Jack,   who adds the charm to the movies.  The prior films had centered on the love interests of Will(Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and I felt Captain Jack Sparrow was in some manner lost within the plot.  I was actually glad to see those two characters not in this sequel.

Past favorites, such as Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally), and Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), appearing in On Stranger Tides made the movie more enjoyable.  Captain Jack Sparrow ( Johnny Depp ) is also  joined by fresh faces including,  his past flame Angelica (Penélope Cruz ) and her father the infamous pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), as they set sail for the Fountain Of Youth.  The chemistry between Depp and Cruz is flawless!  Angelica is Jack’s perfect match–sassy, feisty, and unpredictable!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides takes you on an wild swashbuckling ride with beautiful pirate eating mermaids, zombified crewmen, explosions, a voodoo doll, and plenty of swanky humor only Jack Sparrow can deliver.  Would I watch the movie again?  Most definitely..over and over!

I just wanted to add a brief note that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is rated PG13 and not recommended for children.  There are a few scenes that were rather scary and could frighten a younger audience.  I know my son won’t be watching it until he is MUCH older.
