If you’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new little person into your lives, you’ll probably have spent at least some time preparing for this momentous occasion. One great way to help your planning along is to create a checklist of everything you’ll need before your beautiful bundle of joy arrives. This will ensure that you don’t forget a thing!
8 Months to Go
So, you’ve probably only just found out you’re expecting. Congratulations! At this stage you don’t need to worry about the big stuff. Just make sure mom is eating healthily and cutting down (and in some cases stopping) any nasty habits.

You should have probably started thinking by this point about how you’re going to fit a new baby into your lives. For those of you who have kids already, you’ll have been through this drill before. But whether you have children or not, you’ll find that a new baby takes up a surprising amount of room. Not only should you have a place for your baby to sleep, but you should definitely de-clutter to make way for all of the stuff that comes with it!
4 Months to Go
Now’s the time to start stocking up on items you’re going to need a lot of, like nappies and clothes. You may even find that you simply can’t resist buying little luxuries for your baby, like toys. Don’t fight the urge – this is just another step on the road of welcoming your baby into the world.
2 Months to Go
Time to get the big items! Hopefully you will have some money set aside for necessities, which include: a pram, a stroller, a cot or crib, a Moses basket, a changing station and diaper genie, a car seat … and any of the other larger items which will soon be cluttering up your home. Hopefully you may find that some of these items come your way when you throw your baby shower.
1 Month to Go
Now’s the time to buy anything that you may think you’ll need after the birth, but might be too busy to remember. Thank you cards for your baby shower guests can be bought from Little One Prints, and items for older children (such as school supplies or new shoes) should also be purchased now. Getting these things out of the way will mean that after the birth all you’ll have to do is relax and enjoy your new baby.

Great reminder to see about other shopping as well…once the baby’s born, it’s so hard to remember, let alone find the time, for other things. Something you’ll need in the next few months? Stock up!

I like the “count down” idea! It provides the opportunity to do something at each stage – and also see if you receive some things from a baby shower, friends, etc., before you go out and splurge on everything!
