My Thoughts
If you enjoyed the first two Iron Man movies you are probably going to like this one as well. Lots of explosions, epic villains, chaos, cool techie gadgets, and Tony Stark’s dynamic over the top personality are wrapped up in this 130 minute Marvel flick to enthrall superhero fans and keep them on the edge of their seat.
The movie begins with a flashback sequence on New Year’s Eve 1999 at a science conference held in Bern, Switzerland where Tony is attending a party with Happy and Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall), the inventor of Extremis— a regenerative treatment able to tap into human DNA to repair wounds, grow limbs, and enhance strength. On the way to the elevator Tony and Maya are approached by disabled scientist Aldrich Killian, who is the head of a think tank called AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics). On the elevator he tries to get them interested in his project, but Tony is more interested in getting his “beak weight” and promises to meet him on the roof. However, he leaves him stranded on the rooftop feeling humiliated. Tony has just created demons that would come back to haunt him.
Jumping to present day (thirteen years later) in Malibu, California, Tony is struggling with panic attacks due to his alien encounters in New York (Avengers). Not being able to sleep for 72 hours, Tony doesn’t think things could get any worse until he turns on the television and is plagued by a string of bombings by Mandarin, a terrorist who’s the leader of a group called The Ten Rings that leaves officials baffled.
No spoilers here. You will have to watch the movie to get more information! However, I have to admit I was not as thrilled with Iron Man 3 as expected. Don’t get me wrong. The movie has all the great special effects, bells, and whistles you normally get from the Marvel movies, but the whole terrorist plot thing has actually weighed a bit thin with me; perhaps because the terrorist factor is so over played and I can get that kind of stuff from real life everyday news. I understand the superhero concept, but I enjoy sci-fi fantasy movies more with alien, monster like villains. Yet, there were some cool surprises and twists in this movie to keep me coming back for additional sequels. Keep watching after the credits to see a humorous clip starring Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)!
Iron Man 3 is rated PG-13 for scenes of intense sci-fi action and violence throughout, and some suggestive content, so you might want to view it first before letting young children watch it. There is a bit of profanity too. Although, I found it to be actually mild for a PG13 film (besides one execution clip) and have seen much worse. I let my son watch it, since he is an extreme Iron Man fan and fast forward through any questionable scenes of shootings.

I enjoyed this one, and am looking forward to watching it again. I agree, not quite as good as the other two but still pretty entertaining. The extras sound interesting as well.

thanks for the tip about watching after the credits. Lol hate waiting for all the credits to roll just in case there’s something. 🙂 need to get this movie!

I enjoyed this one a lot because it made Tony vulnerable. It took away what made him so comfortable in the other films, his armor. It showed his weakness and fear and doubt. Overcoming those internal struggles is often far more difficult than beating a terrorist or aliens. One reason I love comic book heroes so much is that they aren’t just facing down the bad guys, but themselves. They are just ordinary people with fear and doubt that they must overcome as well.

Finally, FINALLY saw this, and loved it! I love Robert Downey Jr., and hope he is over his substance abuse problems. He really is a fine actor. Anyone see in as Chaplin?
