Cars 3D Review
My family received an advanced copy of the Cars 3D Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The classic Disney Pixar computer animated comedy adventure is a family favorite, so we were thrilled to see it in spectacular 3D.
For those who have never seen Cars, it follows hotshot Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), in a world without humans and Cars are alive. It begins at the Dinoco 400, where McQueen is racing against 42 other cars for the Piston Cup. For the first time in Piston Cup history, the race results in a three-way tie. A tiebreaker race between veteran The King, runner-up Chick Hicks, and rookie Lightning McQueen is set to be held in California in one week. Looking to break free from his sponsor Rust-eze, an embarrassing medicated bumper ointment to treat rusty cars, he pushes his big rig Mack to drive all night long. Lightening wants to get there before Chick, figuring it is his big chance to ditch Rust-eze and hang out with his dream sponsor Dinoco. Promising to stay awake with Mack, he falls asleep and the exhausted big rig becomes a victim of bully cars, as he nods off the road. The rough road causes Lightening who is still sleeping to roll out the back of the truck. Mack, is awakened by Snotrod’s sneezing and races down the highway, not knowing he left McQueen behind. Eventually awakened by the traffic, Lightening tries to find Mack, but gets lost on Route 66 and ends up in the run-down town of Radiator Springs. Trying to escape from what he believes is a cop car shooting at him, Lightening inadvertently wrecks the town and causes damage to the road. Doc, the town judge, with friendly persuasion from Sally, sentences him to community service of fixing the road which should take about five days. During his stay he learns about friendship, that there is more to life than just trophies, and helps put Radiator Springs back on the map.
You don’t have to be a race fan to love Cars. The movie is filled with plenty of hilarious and touching moments to appeal to the entire family. Not to mention, Cars has a spectacular soundtrack featuring songs such as Real Gone (Sheryl Crow), Life Is A Highway (Rascal Flats), Find Yourself (Brad Paisley), Behind The Clouds (Brad Paisley), Our Town (James Taylor), Route 66 (John Mayer), Songbird (Kenny G), Star Spangled Banner (Jimi Hendrix) My Heart Would Know (Hank Williams), and more!
To upgrade or not to upgrade, that might be the question for most of you who already have Cars on 2D Blu-ray? 2D Blu-ray already offers full 1080p high definition and crisp 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. However, the 3D Cars Blu-ray is incredible! The 3D upgrade delivers stunning imagery with revved-up depth and sound. There are some pop outs like the Piston Cup graphics, but overall it is the eye-catching depth that submerses the viewer in race car heaven. Vivid clear roads, racetracks, neon colors, and close-ups of the cars, breathe life into the 2006 movie making it seem real and alive. I have watched Cars hundreds of times, but watching it in 3D was as if I had never seen it before. If you have 3D capabilities the Ultimate Collector’s Edition is an extreme treat. Do not hesitate to upgrade!

I love this! Something different about this, too, is that in all other car animations, the headlights are the eyes. But not here! They’re so cute!! : )
