Despicable Me 2 Review
It is on rare occasions I am able to say a sequel is more entertaining than the original movie, however this is definitely the case of this massive box-office giant. The first 2010 DM was fantastic, but Despicable Me 2 is infectious and you cannot get enough of the irresistible Minion madness! We LOVED it!
In this movie the focus is more on family and the gadgets used are directed to conquering evil rather than causing mayhem. The Minions are fabulously funny packed with charisma, wackiness, and unpredictability. By the movie’s end you are craving more yellow silliness and a bunch of ripe bananas!
The opening of the movie begins at a top secret laboratory near the Arctic Circle, where the entire intelligence team and their outpost is attacked by a huge horseshoe magnet. The contraption zips almost everyone and everything around them up into the sky. The mysterious act attracts the attention of the Anti-Villain League (AVL), a group of investigators who track down super-villains and bring them to justice. The AVL, which has its headquarters on an incredible submarine that travels underwater, sends out agent Lucy (Kristen Wiig) to ask Gru (Steve Carell) to assist in their investigation to find the evil person who stole the lab. The science laboratory contained a powerful mutagen known as PX-41, a toxin able to turn living organisms, such as lovely fluffy bunnies, into aggressive purple monsters that are indestructible eating machines.
Gru, former super-villain gone good guy, is now living a subdued life of a single father to his adorable adopted daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes. Turning his once despicable lab of mischief into a factory producing horrific tasting jam and jellies, Gru is retired from the super-villain business of stealing the moon and never intends returning to his past villainy profession. His boring lifestyle drives his faithful colleague Dr. Nefario (Russell Brand) to resign and take a position with a new antihero. However, Gru’s domestic existence takes an unexpected turn when Lucy lipstick tasers him into helping the AVL find the mastermind behind the crime.

DM 2 is packed with hilarious scenes, heartwarming moments, and a gaggle of little yellow creatures with big eyes able to produce chuckles throughout the entire film. The three mini Minion movies are charming and a treat all on their own! The Puppy was especially touching, as it reminds me of a delightful entertaining E.T. twist!
The movie is rated PG for rude humor and mild action, but parents will find even the youngest of children will be able to enjoy this film and find it highly engaging! It would make the perfect gift this holiday season!
