Many people choose an exotic location for a vacation and there are a number of famous destinations if this is something you are interested in. Tunisia holidays 2014 are great travel options for travellers and holidaymakers who want to enjoy an attractive Mediterranean coastline and enjoy a thrilling African experience. There are some must-see attractions that those visiting this beautiful country should take in while there and these include the following.
Carthage
Carthage was the capital city of the Carthaginian Empire, with this famous civilization being a rival of the Romans during its heyday. The ruins of the city now lie in the suburbs of Tunis and are an atmospheric reminder of the power that existed in the place during its 3,000 year history. Visitors can tour the ruins, as well as enjoying its coastal location by spending time at the beach.
Monastir
This resort town lies on the coastline of central Tunisia and has some impressive sights to see. One of the most famous is the Ribat, which is located in the harbour area of Monastir. This picturesque fort was once a part of the town’s defenses although is now a tourist attraction and has been used in TV series and movies about the ancient world.
Kairouan
This town is one of the more important locations around the world for those of the Muslim faith. The architecture is spectacular to see, with the domes of mosques and tall minarets dominating the skyline. Its history dates back more than a thousand years and the old town is one of the highlights of a visit. Now designated as a World Heritage Site, Kairouan is one of the gems of Tunisia.
El Djem
The Romans conquered much of northern Africa at the height of their powers and there are many reminders of this in Tunisia. One of the most impressive is the El Djem amphitheatre, which is one of the best preserved in the world. Visitors can walk the underground halls that would have been inhabited by gladiators and climb to the very highest seats to get a view across the entire amphitheatre.
The history of Tunisia makes it a fantastic location in which to spend a vacation. Those that visit will find plenty to keep them entertained while there. The attractions shown above are a few of the best although there are many others that tourists can enjoy.
