While the cosmetics industry is doing everything it can to convince us to buy the latest cleanser, there’s got to be an easier, more natural way to beautifully clear skin. A good complexion is a demonstrator of good health, and it shows people that we take care of ourselves. Many people find that having poor skin can really shake their confidence, but it’s easy to be disheartened when the high range skin care products are so far out of our price range. It’s time to get back to the basics of skin care, for naturally glowing looks.
Keep it clean
When you stop to think about how many times you touch your face in a day, imagining all the dirt, grease, and bacteria that finds its way onto your skin, it’s not difficult to see why our parents were always on at us to wash our hands and faces. Keeping your skin clean with a mild soap, or even just water ensures there is no buildup of grease on your face, which keeps your pores clear and avoids the development of pimples or blackheads.
Rest your weary head
A lack of good quality sleep is terrible for our skin. Not only does it cause dark bags under the eyes, but it can worsen complaints such as eczema, and disrupts your skin’s ability to rejuvenate, making acne breakouts more likely. Make sure you’re changing your pillowcases regularly too – they can become a breeding ground for bacteria, and however much you wash your face, you could be transferring oils straight back onto your skin when you get into bed.
Use home remedies
There are so many great natural remedies for skin complaints, such as honey or apple cider vinegar for reducing inflammation and their antibacterial properties. When you learn how to get rid of pimples, dry skin, or angular cheilitis (the painful cracked skin in the corners of your mouth) with natural remedies, you’ll realize just how easy it is to do with the contents of your pantry. So there’s no more wasting tons of money on expensive cosmetic skin care!
Avoid processed foods
Drinking lots of water and eating tonnes of fresh, leafy greens is the best way to ensure you’re getting all the vitamins and minerals your skin needs to be the healthiest it can. Processed, fatty, or oily foods can cause real havoc with your skin by blocking pores and encouraging extra grease to develop. While everything is fine in moderation, a mainly plant-based diet is always going to be best for a clear and glowing complexion.
Protect it from the sun
The sun is the enemy of your skin; there’s no doubt about that. While you need a little bit for good vitamin D production, too much can cause all manner of problems, from skin cancer to sun spots and wrinkles. A moisturizer with SPF15 or above is great all year round, but in the hotter months, a wide-brimmed hat will ensure you’re always protected.
Our skin is a delicate thing, and we need to look after it. Most of our skincare can be done with natural ingredients, so there’s no need for expensive cosmetics.

Making sure to keep my face clean and wash it gently every night is key to having a clear skin, and staying away from processed foods is so important! I make sure to drink plenty of water and get a lot of sleep. It really helps my skin.

I try to avoid processed foods for many different reasons, too. Great info!

My skin has changed over the last few years from oily to pretty dry. Mostly, this is because of diabetes &, probably, age (in my 50s.) I’m having to learn new skincare tricks these days.
