Family holidays are valuable for many reasons. They offer uninterrupted time to enjoy each other’s company. And, you get the chance to experience new things together! All the fun stuff aside, vacations are fantastic times to learn new skills. The whole family can enjoy a little learning while you’re away. For children, learning is even more important. Those family trips will be their first experience of the world outside what they know. They’ll have the chance to learn about new cultures, histories, and environments. A poolside holiday is also the perfect time to teach them how to swim. Of course, if you’ve never done it before, you may have no idea how to pass on this particular skill. That’s why we’ve written a checklist to help you out!
PICK SOMEWHERE WITH A GOOD POOL
If time by the pool is important to you, you’re probably used to booking hotels based on the pool. If not, it may be worth some consideration. Most popular hotel resorts have pools that would be good to learn in. But, it’s something you should check. First, make sure that your hotel has a pool! In fact, a separate kid’s pool would be preferable. That way, you know your child can learn without contending with boisterous adults. Take the time to look at pictures of the outside area for your chosen hotel. Get an idea of how easy it will be to give swimming lessons. If money isn’t an issue, it may even be worth booking a holiday apartment with a private pool. Think about what type of learner your child is. Will they find the other swimmers an inspiration or a distraction? Choosing the perfect pool guarantees your kids will love swimming by the end of the stay.
GET THEM STARTED BEFORE YOU GO
It’s worth booking your kids a few swimming lessons before you head off. This will save you the job of teaching them the basics. It will also stop them from being afraid of the pool when they get there. You should be able to teach them most of what they need to know. But, it can help to get a professional involved in the early stages. Some children don’t take to swimming. It’s important you know whether your kid falls into that group before you go. Otherwise, your efforts to find the right pool will go to waste. Not to mention that your child could become even more fearful of water from being forced to learn!
GET IN THERE WITH THEM
One thing’s sure; you won’t be able to teach without getting in the water. Professionals may be able to teach from the poolside, but that won’t cut it where you’re concerned. If you’re unwilling to swim, why should your child jump in? Having you by their side will also serve to encourage. Plus, you’ll be there to protect them in a communal pool! Make sure nothing holds you back from getting in that pool when the time comes. Utovlan tablets can delay your period, so you won’t have to worry about that! If you hate getting your hair wet, stock up on bands so you can tie it back. Make sure, too, that you buy a swimming costume for yourself. If you’re fearful of swimming yourself, take some time getting used to being in the water before you go. It’s important you hide that fear from your little one. If they see you’re scared, they may become fearful, too.
TAKE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
During professional swimming lessons, your child would use aids to make things easier. Make your job easier by stocking up on the essentials. Don’t worry too much about filling your case with awkward to pack swimming floats. For the most part, you should be able to buy what you need once you arrive. Make sure, though, that you pack a swimming costume and pair of goggles for your little one. Once you arrive, see if you can hunt down a swimming float. Having this to hold will help your child build confidence in the water. If you have a reluctant learner, you could also stock up on fun rubber dinghies. You can buy these in many shapes. Buy one you know your child won’t be able to resist. Anything that gets them in the water is a bonus. As they learn, you can gradually take away these assists. Think of them as stabilizers on a bike. Before you know it, your child will be riding without them!
