But before you start panicking, you can rest assured this gift doesn’t have to be anything expensive or one-of-a-kind either. There are plenty of host/hostess gifts that will show the person you’re thankful, and the below list will help. Check out these five gift ideas for the host of a party.

Gourmet Gift Baskets
Gourmet gift baskets are one of the best gifts to give a host because it provides them with a variety of options, so you don’t really have to know much about them in order to give a basket. What’s also great about gift baskets is that it’s something you can purchase from a vendor already made, or you can create your own basket depending on the theme/idea you want to follow. These baskets can contain anything from wine and cheese to candy to popcorn. Do a quick search to see what gift basket idea would be great for your host, and then purchase.

Candles
It’s an unspoken fact that you can never have too many candles, so giving candles as a gift to the host is a simple way to say thank you. Take some time to find a candle with a good scent that the host will enjoy or look for a unique candle that will add an extra layer of appreciation. For instance, a Jewel Candle is a candle that has a piece of jewelry inside, or you can opt for a candle made from something unique like beeswax or wine bottles. With so many different options out there, you may have a hard time picking just one.

Wine/Liquor
When it comes to providing a host with a gift, wine or liquor are the most popular choice. This is a simple way to say thank you, and it doesn’t really require much thought on your end. In fact, opting for wine or liquor as a gift is a great idea if you’re running out of time or just need to grab something quickly. For wine, any brand will certainly do. However, if you know for a fact that the individual prefers white to red or vice versa, be sure to pick the right kind.
If you’re opting for liquor as a gift, it’s a good idea to know what would go over well. For instance, liquor makes more sense if you know the host prefers a certain type, such as vodka, or bourbon. This way, you can provide them with a gift you know they’ll actually use. After all, you don’t want to give vodka to someone who doesn’t drink it. If they appreciate a fine cigar as well, you could even pair a bottle of liquor with a Montecristo No. 2, for example.
-
Flowers
Another last-minute gift idea for the host is flowers. Obviously, this gift idea may work better if the host is a woman, but there are some men out there who wouldn’t mind flowers as a gift. Like wine or liquor, flowers can easily be picked up on your way to the party, so it doesn’t require much thought or pre-planning on your end. Plus, you can easily grab the flowers that fit with the season, such as poinsettias in winter or lilies in the spring/summer. You may just want to make sure the host doesn’t have any allergies to pollen, just to be safe. After all, you don’t want your host gift to be more of a nuisance.

Coasters
Coasters are another simple host gift that can go a long way. Plus, what makes these gifts stand out is that you can easily pick those that match something you know about the host. For instance, if you’re going to a party for your child’s sports team, you can buy coasters that are associated with that sport. You can also opt for customized coasters that will easily make your host feel special. Plus, you can rest assured this is something they’ll use, whether during parties or year-round.
Bringing the host of a party a gift is a great way to say thank you and finding the right gift doesn’t mean you need to drive yourself crazy coming up with an idea. Using any of the gift ideas on this list will help ensure your host is happy with what you bring.

I guess if you really don’t know what a host would like, you can’t go wrong with flowers. A nice candle from Yankee Candle is nice, I was just on their website – kind of expensive, so a person might not indulge themselves, but as a gift it would be great.
