Moving home is an exciting time as you are embarking on a new adventure in different surroundings but the physical act of moving all your possessions is not something that many of us enjoy.
There are a number of ways to make the moving process easier and if you can ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible it will mean that you can settle in quicker in your new home.
Here are some must-have items to put on your list when you are planning a move.
Stock up on boxes
If you are going to be using a firm of movers to help you take everything for you it might be that you decide to pay for them to pack your things too.
However, if you are going to do the packing yourself you will need plenty of boxes, but pick them carefully.
Many of us tend to think it would be better to get a whole load of large boxes so that you can pack everything in and not have so many boxes to actually transport when the time comes to go.
A good tip would be to invest in a decent number of small boxes rather than too many larger ones. The reason for this is that you can be much more precise with your packing, making it easier to find everything and unpack at the other end.
It is also much easier to move smaller and lighter boxes than trying to break your back with a large box that is filled to the brim.
Have plenty of hangers
Another simple item that is actually indispensable when you are moving is the humble coat hanger.
If you can get as many of your clothes as possible onto hangers this will make it much easier to take them with you in your car and then simply hang them up at the other end.
The alternative of unboxing clothes that may have become crumpled during the move is considerably less appealing.
Get some multi-purpose sealing wrap
Another no-brainer must-have item for your moving shopping list is a large roll of multi-purpose sealing wrap.
There are so many things you can do to make your move easier with this item.
For example, you could transport all of your clothes draws intact by covering them with the wrap, and it will keep things like your jewelry case in good order too.
It won’t take long to unwrap when you start unpacking and for such a modest outlay it is an item that can be worth so much more to you.
A safe place for important bits and pieces
You will often have to dismantle certain items like shelves and curtain poles when you move and it is infuriating to discover that a vital screw or fitting seems to have gone missing in transit.
Invest in a pack of sandwich bags and you can put all of these bits and pieces into individual bags, taking away the stress of searching around for these items when you rebuild them in your new home.
These four must-have items are hardly going to break the bank to buy them, but you will consider it money well spent when your move goes better than you might have expected.

This is good advice. I hate moving but I’ve done it a few times and I would say tape up the bottom of EVERY box, because I guarantee one will bust open if you don’t. Also, if there’s something you really value, put it in the car with you and carry it yourself, because every move I’ve had a box just not make it to the next destination.

Sandwich bags for bits and pieces is such a good idea. Tape the parts to the inside of the box.

I hate moving. Luckily I haven’t done so in almost 8 years. I always went to to places like liquor stores or grocery stores to look for boxes they are throwing out. I love the sandwich bag idea.

This is the perfect, straight to the point must haves moving list! I will pass this along to my daughter who will be getting her own apartment later this year.
