Who knew that cute Cabbage Patch doll or amazingly cool (according to your seven-year-old) Black Panther smash glove was actually serious hazards to your child? Unfortunately, it’s true.
There are quite a few dangerous toys on the market (or recently pulled off the market) that may be in your home. Being informed and knowing what these toys are can help you get rid of them before injuries occur.
The Nella Princess Knight Sleeptime Lites Pillow Pets by Nickelodeon
This was a hot toy for a while due to the soothing images of the night sky is projected on a ceiling or well. It was touted as an effective way to help make bedtime much more fun. According to W.A.T.C.H., the consumer advocacy group, while it’s marketed as a product for infants, the packaging warns that it should never be used in a baby’s crib.
There are parts of the toy that present an ingestion hazard, and the potential battery acid leakage may be hazardous. This is a toy found at many retailers, so buyer beware.
The Stomp Rocket Ultra Rocket
This product was marketed for children who were ages six and up. However, it could also result in face or eye injuries. The toy works when a child stomps on an air pad, which then forces the air into the foam rocket that is launched upward. While the toy includes warnings of the potential injuries that may occur, some parents aren’t heeding these warnings.
The Chien A Promener Pull Along Dog
Even with the issues in the past, and multiple consumers hiring product defect attorneys for injuries and issues, manufacturers are still making “pull toys” that have cords that are more than 12 inches. This creates a serious strangulation hazard.
This particular toy has a string that is approximately 19 inches long; however, there are no posted warnings on it. It’s also marketed to kids as young as 12 months old.
The Nerf Vortex VTX Praxis Blaster
There’s no question that the message of the very famous Christmas movie, “A Christmas Story,” was that “you’ll put your eye out” if you play with the Red Rider BB gun. Unfortunately, this advice now applies to a modern toy – the Nerf Vortex VTX Praxis Blaster. In fact, the blast produced by this gun presents the possibility for both face and eye injuries.
The Marvel Black Panther Slash Claw
This toy was created by Hasbro and does come with a warning that children should not swing it at or hit animals or people. Nor should the claw be used around anything that’s breakable.
However, it’s based on the extremely popular Marvel character and movie and marketed to kids as young as five. As a result, it’s likely they are going to be tempted to “slash” just like their favorite superhero, making this toy a serious danger to the child, and those nearby.
If you have purchased any of the toys listed here for your child, or a child you love, it may be time to get rid of it. Each one poses serious hazards and should be avoided. If you or your child suffer an injury due to a dangerous toy, then it’s a good idea to contact an attorney to learn what rights you have and if you may be able to recover compensation for the injuries.
