Making the decision to alter your appearance, even a little bit, is a personal choice only the individual can make. No amount of plastic surgery can change your perspective or your heart, but it can give your self-esteem a big boost.
Considering smaller changes, through versatile Botox treatments, could be just what the doctor ordered to change your outlook on life. But at what age is it best to start a Botox treatment regimen?
What is Botox?
Before considering Botox injections, which are a preventative measure and not an actual way to drastically alter your look, you should know exactly what it is. Clostridium Botulinum is what Botox is taken from and it is a neurotoxin. This toxin, which is extremely dangerous if not administered properly, can be found in forests, soil, and lakes. It can also be life-threatening if injected by a certified professional.
In April of 2002, Botox was given the “seal of approval” by the Federal Drug Administration or FDA. This began the long love affair with Botox to help make women and men feel and look younger.
What Age is a Good Marker to Start Botox Injections?
There are no rules as to how old you can be to receive Botox injections; however, almost all doctors and clinicians agree that no one under the age of 18 should receive Botox injections.
Another recommendation from experts is to wait until you are in your late 20s or early 30s and beyond to start injections. The reason behind this is because most lines and wrinkles do not begin to form or appear until you are of a certain age. Again, there is no age limit to start Botox injections, so if you find wrinkles and fine lines in your advanced age, they can be corrected.
Preventative Botox
If you want to prevent fine lines and wrinkles before they appear, there are a series of injections that are labeled preventative. A much lighter dose of Botox is injected into the muscles to help keep them weak and from forming wrinkles. The best thing about preventative measures is that they do not have to be updated as often as the injections that are correcting lines and wrinkles.
The injection is created from the Botox powder and a sterile saline solution. It is then injected into areas of the face to weaken the muscles. Which in turn will discourage wrinkles from forming.
A Note of Warning
If your face is wrinkled due to over sun exposure or other non-aging related causes, Botox will not help. Also, you can overdo the amount of Botox and become deathly ill. It is important to adhere to your doctor’s recommendation and only get Botox injections when they are recommended.
When considering Botox injections, take into account that no amount of reshaping your face will give you the happiness you are seeking. Changing your appearance may help your self-esteem in the beginning, but real work on your core beliefs and what your life means is going to be the deciding factor for long-term happiness.
