When you think of your family’s health you might think about their diet and how much exercise or fresh air they’re getting. This is sensible but there are so many other factors to consider as well. What about their eye health, dental health, joints and physical health – how is their hearing health. This post looks at these concerns more closely.
EYE HEALTH
It’s likely that not everyone in your family has perfect eyesight, if you do you must have family flawless genes. Most people have some form of eyesight issue even if it’s mild and barely noticeable. So it’s very important to check your family regularly.
If you have an eyesight issue yourself you might notice some strain when watching TV or driving, if the issue is in a family member you might notice them squinting, or rubbing their eyes. Try to attend an optometrist as regularly as you would attend a dentist.
EAR HEALTH
Most people don’t notice ear health issues until they become a problem, that can take many years. It’s not a good idea to let this happen since audio issues can lead to long term hearing loss and contribute to dementia.
Attend an audiologist clinic at least once a year with your family to have your hearing checked. An audiologist can also advise you on how to protect your hearing from damage and how hearing aids work if you happen to need them.
DENTAL HEALTH
As with all the items on this list your dental health is very important both in the short and long term. The teeth don’t just have to look good for smiling at important occasions, they also need to be functional and free from painful issues.
The standard advice for maintaining teeth is to brush them twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. This is still good general advice, but if you want to avoid the buildup of harmful plaque you need to floss as well and visit the dentist every six months at least.
JOINT HEALTH
Like the health of your ears you probably won’t notice a difference to the health and function of your joints until they start to grind or become painful. The best treatment for painful joints is prevention which is why you should pay attention to them throughout your life.
Begin with simple stretching regularly, yoga is a good activity to get into if you want to improve your joint health long term. You can also integrate therapies into your lifestyle such as chiropractic treatment that check your spine and back is in optimal condition.
MUSCLE HEALTH
It’s easy to forget about the co dictionary of your muscles, especially if you’re always busy and have very little time to spare lifting weights or doing press ups. The trouble is that muscles are learning machines that can also forget their purpose and atrophy.
You might notice the muscles in your body becoming weaker when they aren’t used. These muscles have evolved to be used for strenuous exercise daily so you won’t look or feel as healthy as you could if you don’t make them work.
