Many of us experience a variety of weird and wonderful dreams that are often difficult to explain as to the reason why these thoughts filled our heads while we slept.
There are also a number of common dreams, such as the feeling of falling, that can happen regularly, almost until you are able to find a meaning for the dream that you keep having.
Recurring dreams and common themes such as the feeling of falling tend to have some hidden meaning behind them. Here are some interpretations of common dreams and what they mean.
Are you having a so-called “standard dream”?
Dream analysts suggest that well over half of the dreams you experience will have been formulated and influenced by what you experience while you are awake.
If you go to bed thinking about a planned exotic holiday, for instance, you may well have a pleasant dream where you see yourself laying on a beach.
Your mood is very influential to the type of dreams you will have. If you are relaxed, you should have a more pleasant dreaming experience. If you are stressed, the chances of experiencing pain, violence, and anger, increase substantially.
So-called standard dreams are influenced by your mood and what thoughts are in your head as you settle down for the night.
Why do we have recurring dreams?
Many of us are troubled by recurring dreams and part of that anxiety is about trying to find a meaning for having the same type of dream over and over again.
Common recurring dreams include the feeling of falling, being chased and not being able to escape the pursuer, and confrontations with someone or something.
The medical explanation for a recurring dream is that you have an underlying medical condition or are experiencing a mental health problem, such as anxiety.
This is not always the explanation. However, studies suggest you probably have to address your physical or mental health to help prevent recurring dreams.
Seeing into the future
Prophetic dreams are talked about a lot. That’s because there is a lot of conjecture as to whether you really are seeing the future or if you are simply anticipating and preparing for what you think might happen at a later date.
Some cultures believe that prophetic dreams are messages from the spirit world. A more scientific explanation is that a prophetic dream is merely your subconscious preparing you for an anticipated future outcome.
Experiencing a really vivid dream
We don’t remember all of our dreams. Some of our most vivid dreams come when we awaken during REM sleep.
REM is part of the sleep cycle and it is the point where we are in-between awakening and still being asleep, but not in a deep sleep. The fact that we are in that crossover period tends to be the reason why dreams at this point are so vivid and so memorable. It is because you have a higher level of consciousness at this point in the sleep process.
The truth of the matter is that we do not have a level of understanding that is good enough to be able to explain all of our dreams and why we are having them.
If you go to bed on a really comfortable mattress and in relaxing surroundings that might help you to have a more pleasant dream. What will fill your thoughts as you drift away for the night?
