Like every young girl who dreams of meeting her gorgeous prince someday, Cinderella was one of my most adored Disney childhood movies. I have more than likely watched the film hundreds of times during my lifetime. Now I am able to share the tale in beautiful animated detail with my children along with its magical music in crystal clear high definition sound. The famous story has been retold and remade numerous times, but nothing compares to Walt Disney’s whimsical creation in my opinion.
I’m certain all Cinderella enthusiasts have a particular cherished moment out of the film. Mine is when Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother appears and transforms a pumpkin into a carriage, the mice into horses, horse to a coachman, and the dog to a footman. She sings the catchy Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo tune as she waves her wand and performs magical alterations.
For the small few that may not know or remember the story, it is filled with dreams and romance. The tale begins within a tiny Kingdom located in a faraway land that is rich with love and tradition. There in the place of peace and prosperity, inside a stately chateau, lived a widowed gentleman and his beautiful young daughter, Cinderella. Being a very kind and devoted father, he bestowed upon his only child every comfort and luxury, but still felt she lacked and needed a mother’s care. Therefore, he married a second time choosing a woman (Lady Tremaine) from what he believed was a good family with two socially awkward daughters just around Cinderella’s age named Drizella and Anastasia. After his untimely death, the stepmother’s true unkind nature was revealed. She was cold, cruel, and bitterly jealous of Cinderella’s charm and beauty, and she poisoned her spoiled daughters to feel the same. Even the cat Lucifer took on their unkind behavior and got enjoyment out of tormenting Cinderella!
As time passed on the estate fell in poor condition for the family’s wealth was squandered away by the narcissistic and selfish stepsisters, while Cinderella was neglected, humiliated, and eventually forced to become a servant in her own home. Yet, even after the torment, Cinderella possessed a gentle and kind demeanor and befriended the animals living in the barn along with the mice and birds that also lived around the chateau. With every passing day, she believed her wishes and dreams of happiness would come true.
Meanwhile at the palace, the King is distraught that his son has been avoiding his responsibilities long enough and it was time for him to settle down and get married. Worrying that he was not getting any younger, the King was resolute to see his grandchildren before he dies. Being lonely in the desolate old palace and longing to hear the pitter-patter of little feet again, he goes to desperate measures and orders the Duke to organize a ball inviting every eligible maiden in the kingdom in efforts to find Prince Charming a wife.
Back at the chateau the evil stepsisters are having their dreadful singing lessons while poor Cinderella scrubs the floor. Lucifer, the awful mischievous cat already irritated by the noise, decides to make Cinderella’s work harder and deliberately steps in a dustpan of dirt to leave his nasty paw prints all over the clean floor. Cinderella ready to teach the mean old cat a lesson with a swift swing of a broom gets distracted by a knock at the door. Lucifer escapes once again without getting his just desserts!
At the door was a messenger with an urgent message from “His Imperial Majesty.” Cinderella, knowing the letter was of great importance, interrupted the stepsister’s squawking lessons even though she was warned by Lady Tremaine to never to disturb them during their singing. Informing that she had a message from the palace, the Stepmother opens the letter to find it is an invitation to the ball in honor of His Highness, the Prince. With the demand every eligible maiden was to attend, Cinderella was excited with the thought of going to the ball. However, the stepsisters began scoffing at the thought of her dancing with the Prince and made fun of Cinderella as they danced with a broom. Ignoring their rudeness, Cinderella protested she was still a member of the family and it was of royal command that every eligible maiden was to attend. The Stepmother could not argue with the wishes of the King and agreed Cinderella could go as long as “if” all her work was done, and “if” she could find something suitable to wear.
Happy at last, Cinderella retrieved her deceased mother’s dress from her trunk. The old-fashioned gown was lovely, but needed a bit of fixing to be ball worthy. Getting ideas from a dress book, Cinderella intended on making alterations to the pretty but old dress by shortening the sleeves, adding a sash and ruffle, and finding something for the collar. During her planning she was called away by her stepmother and two scheming stepsisters. The mice feeling sorry for Cinderella and that they are always keeping her hoppin and busy with endless chores, decided to fix the dress to ensure she would be able to go to the ball. Finding the necessary trimming from the stepsister’s room to modernize the gown, the mice lead by Jaq and Gus, transformed the old plain dress into a gorgeous ball gown.

It was 8 o’clock and time for the ball to begin. The carriage arrived at the chateau to bring the maidens to the celebration. Cinderella done with her chores, but depressed she did not have time to fix her dress, decided she was not going to the royal ball since she had nothing to wear. Then the mice surprise her with the old, now new, ball gown and Cinderella prepares to go with the rest of the family. Complimenting the beautiful dress, the stepmother brings attention to the beads and sash. Accusing Cinderella of being a thief, the angry sisters rip her dress apart leaving nothing but a torn rag. The stepmother breaks up the fight and they depart to the ball without Cinderella.
Sobbing at a bench underneath a willow tree, Cinderella was questioning her faith of dreams coming true and feeling there was nothing left to believe in. Just when all seemed lost, her Fairy Godmother appeared reassuring Cinderella that dreams do come true. With a wave or two of her wand and a few Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boos, the Fairy Godmother magically transforms a large pumpkin and animal friends into a sparkly elegant coach with horses, coachman, and footman. Realizing a raggedy dress won’t do, the Fairy Godmother waves her magical wand once more to turn Cinderella’s frock into a stunning blue gown with matching glass slippers. Cinderella, regaining her faith of dreams coming true, was warned by the Fairy Godmother that like all good dreams this one would not last forever and she only had till midnight until the spell would be broken and everything will be as it was before. Cinderella, understanding the terms, is still grateful and heads to the ball.

At the Royal Ball, the Prince rejects to dance with any of the maidens and appears bored. The King is understandably upset that his son is not cooperating. Then when the King was about to give up, Prince Charming sees Cinderella—the girl of his dreams. Cinderella, not even knowing it was the Prince, agreed to dance with the handsome man and the two waltzed alone throughout the castle grounds, falling in love. Forgetting about the time the clock strikes twelve and Cinderella races to the coach away from the Prince who didn’t even catch her name. Hurrying away before the spell would change her back to normal, Cinderella inadvertently loses her glass slipper leaving it behind for the Duke to pick up. Knowing that the King would have his head if anything went wrong, the Duke had the castle men try and chase down the fleeing coach, but it was no use since the coach vanished at the spell break and could not be found.

The next morning the King awakes from dreaming about playing with his grandchildren and ready to plan his son’s wedding. Scared to tell the King, the Duke informs him that the Prince’s love interest got away. Mad and upset at the disheartening news, the King is about to have the Duke’s head and accuses him of being in league with the Prince. Explaining that she vanished into thin air and only left behind a glass slipper, the Duke tries reasoning to save his life by telling him the Prince loves the mysterious girl and won’t rest until he finds her. The King stops swinging his sword when he hears the Prince is determined to marry the girl who fits the slipper. Blissful once again, the King orders a proclamation that every maiden in the kingdom is to try on the glass slipper. And if the shoe fits to bring her in for marriage!
The news reaches Lady Tremaine and she prepares her dreadful daughters for the Grand Duke’s arrival. While delivering the breakfast tray to her sisters Cinderella over hears how the Prince is hunting for the girl with the glass slipper and is madly in love. Realizing it was the Prince she danced with, shocked Cinderella drops the tray on the floor spilling all of its contents. The stepmother calls her clumsy and demands she clean up the mess and help get her daughters dressed. The girls rush to get dressed thinking they might be able to fool the Prince into believing that one of them was the girl from last night.
Cinderella begins dreaming and humming happily at the thought of becoming the Prince’s bride. Figuring out that Cinderella was the girl the Prince was dancing with at the ball, the wicked stepmother locks Cinderella in her attic bedroom before the Duke’s arrival.
Upon the Grand Duke arrival, the mice plan on stealing the key to unlock Cinderella’s door. Meanwhile, the two sisters proclaim the glass slipper is theirs. Almost getting caught, the two mice get the key out of Lady Tremaine’s pocket as the sisters begin trying on the slipper. However, on their way up the stairs they are ambushed by Lucifer. Watching through the key whole, Cinderella tells the birds to go get Bruno to help. Bruno comes to the rescue and chases Lucifer out of the house. The mice are finally able to let Cinderella out of her locked room. Just when the Duke is almost ready to leave after the two girls unsuccessfully tried to fit into the slipper, Cinderella appears and asks to try it on. Knowing the glass slipper is going to fit Cinderella, the stepmother trips the footman, causing the slipper to go flying and shattering into pieces. The Duke frets about what the King will say and do to him. Then Cinderella pulls out the matching slipper out of her pocket and shocks. The evil stepmother is horrified! Joyous to see the glass slipper, the Grand Duke slips it on Cinderella’s foot and the animal friends cheer with happiness. Soon after bells ring and Cinderella’s dreams of marrying the Prince finally come true. The End!
