Did you know the African lions are in danger of extinction and Americans are contributing to the problem?
There is an estimate of as few as 32,000 African lions to be left in the wild. The United States is adding to the devastation by importing more than half of all lions killed by trophy hunters. If this is allowed to continue the loss of more could have resounding impacts on the species.
In efforts to combat further bloodshed, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), along with a coalition of wildlife groups, has petitioned to list the species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). Listing the African lion as Endangered would prohibit lion trophy importation into the U.S., which would be an essential act in reversing the current decline of the population. Right now, the African lion is the only big cat not protected under the ESA.
Please take a look at this infographic below illustrating the alarming statistics on the unfortunate situation of the African lion. Influential celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ian Somerhalder, Amber Valletta and Kristin Bauer have all already roared in support of African lion protection!

What a tragedy! Why can’t animals just live in peace?
