Have you ever fallen in love with a product only to have it discontinued once you became hooked on it? I am sure most of us are able to answer yes to that question! However, how many of you have gone to great lengths to get the company to bring it back? Listen to what happens when a Totino’s fan decides to bring back the tasty Mexican Style Party Pizza! It will inspire you!
David Hlavac really loves Totino’s Mexican Style Party Pizza. So much so that he started Bring Back Totino’s Mexican Style Party Pizza” Facebook page and generated more than 700 followers. General Mills and Totino’s was so moved by his passion that it’s doing just that. For a limited time (March – May 2013) Mexican Style Party Pizza will be reintroduced at select retailers nationwide.
Hlavac, a Minneapolis professional and father of two, got his wish when Totino’s recently surprised him at work with a Mariachi band, a year’s supply of his favorite pizza, $500 in bonus Box Tops for Education for his children’s elementary school and other prizes.
“I couldn’t believe Totino’s was actually paying attention,” said Hlavac. “What’s more, they actually went through the process of bringing a product back because a group of us were asking for it. I’m impressed, and now with a year’s supply, I can rest easy for awhile.”
“We never really know how much consumers latch on to one brand or flavor until it’s gone,” said Carina Sarbaugh, associate marketing manager for Totino’s. “That’s what’s so wonderful about the power of social media, it gives our consumers a platform to tell us how they feel about our products, and we take that very seriously. We’re so happy we could move on this flavor reintroduction given the consumer response, especially for our most loyal fans.”
The flavor was discontinued in 2007 to make room for other Totino’s offerings and to focus on its core party pizza line. Totino’s Mexican Style Party Pizza includes a crisp crust with taco seasoned chicken and beef pizza toppings including green peppers, onions and cheese toppings. The suggested retail price for the 10 oz package is $1.39.
“Totino’s was into crowd sourcing long before it was a trend” said DyShaun Muhammad, senior marketing manager for General Mills.” The Totino family built the brand in the 1950’s by listening to their fans and creating recipes based on their preferences. The return of Mexican Style Party Pizza carries on that tradition, but now through the power of social media.”
As you can see…sometimes it pays to speak up! Now, I searched my entire local area for the Totino’s Mexican Style Party Pizza, but was unsuccessful locating the delicious treat. Apparently, the pizza has not made it to my immediate surroundings yet here in New York. Nonetheless, I am no stranger to Totino’s pizzas! When I was a teen (back in the 1980’s), I would come home from school and make a beeline for my freezer to grab a Totino’s pizza out, pop it in the oven for 15 minutes, and eat it while watching my favorite show. Of course back then they didn’t have the flavor varieties they have now like Hamburger, Cheesy Taco, or Canadian Style Bacon, but I was happy with my Pepperoni Pizza with the crispy crust. The really cool factor is, I keep my freezer stocked with Totino’s Pizza Rolls and Party Pizza so my daughter is able to have something yummy she can make on her own without a melt-down when she comes home from a stressful day of school work. For anyone who has hungry teenagers you already know the first thing they do when they get home is raid the fridge and freezer! Totino’s is extremely inexpensive, letting you “mom up” without breaking the bank while satisfying hungry mouths for a lot less!
Like I said earlier, I have not found the elusive Totino’s Mexican Style Party Pizza as of yet. The limited edition treat will be making its appearance just in time for Cinco de Mayo in your favorite grocer’s freezer, giving you the chance to stock up on it before it disappears again. Loaded with delicious toppings of taco seasoned chicken, beef, bits of green pepper, and cheese in a special sauce…it sounds amazingly good!
