Eight days ago a Keurig Platinum Brewer arrived upon my doorstep with a variety of K-cups from MS&L (Keurig representative). Over the past year I have seen bloggers go crazy about Keurig and the K-cups. I always wondered if all the hype and favorable recommendations were actually true. I have tried Senseo, Mr. Coffee, Krups, and a few other coffee makers but none of them left me satisfied with their performance or the coffee the machines spouted out, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to test a higher end Keurig model and see if it lived up to its great reputation.
I wanted to wait a few days before writing my review because sometimes when you get a new appliance it is great in the beginning however within a few days the novelty wears off and you ponder if it was really worth the investment or if you actually needed it. Well I have been using The Keurig B70 Platinum Brewer since Saturday for an average of 5 times per day and each time I use it I am convinced it is definitely a unique machine which delivers a perfect fresh gourmet cup of coffee, tea (hot or cold), or cocoa in less than a minute with a single touch of a button. Its a coffee, tea, or cocoa lovers DREAM machine.

K-Cups
The Keurig Brewers use a special airtight packaging for coffee, tea, and hot cocoa called K-Cups. Each portion pack is filled with just the right amount of the finest grind of Arabica beans, select teas, or mouth watering cocoa and vacuum-sealed for ultimate freshness. With over 200 K-Cup varieties of gourmet coffee, tea and cocoa, even the most persnickety hot beverage drinkers can find something they will love!
Along with your brewer comes a “Finding Your Taste” shopping guide that helps make your selection easy. The guide is arranged by roasting style – Extra Bold, Dark Roast, Medium Roast, Light Roast, Flavored (my favorite), Decaf, Fair Trade/Organic, Premium Teas, and Hot Cocoa. You will find some of the world’s most respected roasters including Green Mountain Coffee, Van Houtte, Tully’s, Diedrich, Gloria Jean’s Timothy’s, Coffee People, Newman’s Own Organics, Caribou Coffee, and Emeril’s Gourmet Coffee. Or choose a cup of tea from well known brands like Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, or Twinings. Maybe your craving a delicious cup of hot cocoa? Brew yourself a cup of Timothy’s decadent White Hot Chocolate or a rich and creamy cup from a Green Mountain Coffee K-Cup. Yummy!
Effortless Brewing
Brewing your favorite customized cup is quick and simple. My daughter who is only 12 has no problem operating the single-serve brewer. After plugging the machine and filling the reservoir with water (recommended to use bottled or filtered water for better taste) the brewer takes roughly 4 minutes to heat the water for the first initial cup. Once the water has heated the LCD Control Center will indicate “Ready To Brew” and the Brewer is ready. Place a cup or mug on the drip plate and choose your K-Cup ( do not remove the foil on the K-Cup). Next lift the handle, place the K-Cup in the K-Cup Holder Assembly and push the handle down to puncture the K-Cup with the SHARP needles in the K-Cup Assembly Housing and lid. Select the cup size you would like and press the “Brew” button. Your gourmet cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa will be ready for you to enjoy in under 1 minute!

The Pros
I can see why so many people are buzzing about the Keurig Platinum Brewer! There is no measuring, mess, or hassle you get with the average drip coffee makers. Plus, the coffee stays fresh, there is no waste since your only brewing a single serving, it makes a perfect cup to your liking every time, and its AWESOME for entertaining guests. With so many coffee varieties available there is no need to worry about getting bored and its fun trying the new flavors In my honest opinion, this is a perfect machine for anyone who is a coffee connoisseur. I can feel good about recommending the Keurig Platinum Brewer to all my family and friends.
The Cons
The K-Cups are not exactly what you can call environmentally friendly. Depending upon how many cups are going to be consumed on a daily basis, the K-Cups can heap up and are not recyclable. The K-Cups are also more costly, but your paying for the great convenience and specialty. There is a very good solution to this that the company has offered to environmentally conscious consumers being the My K-Cup accessory. The My K-Cup filter allows you to use your own gourmet coffee and eliminates the need for the plastic K-Cup. The company is actively researching alternate materials for the K-Cup portion pack to reduce its environmental impact and hopes to market the new packaging sometime in 2010.

Company Background
“Why brew coffee a pot at a time when we drink it a cup at a time?”
Keurig was founded by coffee lovers who believed that coffee should always be served fresh, whether at home or at the office, just as in a gourmet coffee house. They noticed that people were constantly leaving their homes and offices in search of a fresh cup of coffee and asked themselves: “Why do we brew coffee a pot at a time when we drink it a cup at a time?” From this question, the revolutionary concept of Keurig K-Cup® portion pack brewing was born.
Today, Keurig, Incorporated is the leader in single-cup coffee brewing technology in the U.S. for both home and office. Introduced in 1998, Keurig’s innovative single-cup brewing system lets coffee lovers brew perfect coffee, one cup at a time, in less than a minute.
Keurig’s patented single-cup brewing system lets people brew a perfect cup of gourmet coffee in less than a minute without the hassle of grinding beans, measuring coffee, handling filters or cleaning up. Keurig takes away all the guesswork from brewing a consistently great cup of coffee.

My Keurig is my best friend in the world. But you’re right, the K-Cups do add up price wise and can be difficult to find a large variety of offline.
