How many of you are enjoying the original programs Netflix has to offer? I find myself tuning into Netflix way more than I do cable these days. I love how they release full seasons of original shows at a time, which gives me hours of entertainment on those days I don’t feel like leaving the couch. Don’t scoff! This winter has been cold, downright frigid, and we have spent more time inside than out the entire season! Netflix has been an enormous winter blue’s boredom buster for the whole family!
One show Netflix recently released that I have been enjoying is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The series debuted on Netflix on March 6 and is a comedy about a woman named Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) who was rescued from an Indiana doomsday cult that left her in a bunker for 15 years with three other women. She tries to adjust to modern life in New York City with the help of her roommate Titus (Tituss Burgess), a gay larger-than-life aspiring actor and zany landlady Lillian (Carol Kane).
Upon her arrival in New York City, Kimmy sees a young boy shoplifting so she takes him home. This is how she becomes the nanny for Jacqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski), a millionaire’s wife whose marriage is failing. Kimmy soon learns Jacqueline also has a defiant step daughter named Xanthippe (Dylan Gelula). The moody teenager tries to make Kimmy’s life more miserable, but soon discovers her nanny has come up with creative ways to keep her under control.
Starting life over as one of the “Mole Women” and adjusting to New York City living, causes Kimmy to have to overcome her awkwardness. Her belief you can do anything for 10 seconds and constant resilience makes her “unbreakable.” Despite the circumstances, Kimmy, Titus, and Jacqueline find ways of reinventing themselves to be able to make it in New York City!
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s hilarious new comedy series is charming and a fun poke at trying to erase your past to step into the present by overcoming life’s challenges, no matter how ridiculous they are. Netflix currently has 13 episodes of the original series for your binge watching enjoyment!
“unbreakable” moments
I think as parents we have all experienced some “unbreakable” moments! Just when you think you can’t do anymore you pull energy from your toes to come through for your kids. To be quite honest, I can’t ever remember not being a “mom!” I have tuned out decades and now that my kids are getting older—I’m just catching up on things like the fascination in galaxy print, who Sam Smith is, and what POS stands for (parent over shoulder)! Okay, I am a bit behind in things as you can tell. I guess it is time for me to reinvent myself and begin doing things for me and not just as “mom.” Life moves fast and if you aren’t careful it can pass you by!
