We’re all guilty of falling prey to the small habits that make up the routine of our life, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Everything we’re doing today can be changed tomorrow – and should be if they’re destructive to our well-being. We know it’s often said, but you do only get one life, and it’s up to you – and nobody else – to make sure that you have the best life possible. But you can only achieve this is you’re the best version of yourself. Here’s how it’s done.
Start to Think
Too many people across society are guilty of staying in situations that they’re not happy with. It’s not that they’re unaware that they’re not happy: it’s that they don’t think about making the changes. Practically every aspect of our lives is the product of a decision. Do we eat a fast food meal, or do we prepare a fresh and healthy meal at home? It is all these little decisions that make up the picture of who we are, so start thinking. You should trust yourself to make the right decision, but you must think in the first place – that’s the important thing.
Perfect Your Body
It’s very easy to let a negative lifestyle become a spiral of negative thoughts. If we’re not exercising properly, then we’re more liable to become lethargic, to just be content with whatever happens, no matter how out of shape we get. While it’s much more comfortable just to sit at home rather than do exercise, comfortable is not always better. Push your body to be the best it can be. Start running, and begin to shift that excess fat. Take up weight training and tone your body, giving yourself more energy to achieve your goals in the process. With a body that’s well taken care of, we can do anything.
Spend Time Outdoors
There are many people across society who spend next to no time in the outdoors, and they’re probably not even aware of the negative that action is having upon them. Humans are meant to be outdoors; it’s good for the soul. If nothing else, it allows us to think bigger, and make decisions related to our life that we might not have reached had we not ventured outdoors. You can spend 355 days of the year in the comfort of your home: dedicate ten or so a year to sleeping under the stars. It’ll do you good to look up at the universe and wonder.
Be Open
Humans tend to get into the habit of thinking only in one particular way. They get stuck in their ways and fail to see things from another point of view, especially when they become more settled in the lives. But settled is just another word for ‘closed’ if it’s not done properly, and with a closed spirit, it’s impossible to become the best version of yourself. How many experiences, friends, and ideas might be you be missing out on just because you’re not able to open yourself to new ways of thinking?
Lynne B says
I’ve found that I’ve become less open as I’ve gotten older. However, I do try to stay open to other ideas and hearing people out.
