Now that the summer is here, you are probably thinking about heading on a family vacation or looking at booking some last minute deals, but the eternal question is where? Family vacation time is always difficult in finding the right location that caters for you, your partner, and all the children, especially if you’re trying to find somewhere that also benefits all of you, together and apart. It’s even harder when you’ve got young children and toddlers. Part of vacationing together should involve plenty of family time too, but you need to be able to get some great pictures and lots of great memories, which can be done by your phone, but it’s not the same as the old fashioned family snaps, are they? So, here’s a couple of summery destinations, along with the best apps for preserving those memories.
The Place: Praia do Barril, Algarve, Portugal
Based in the quieter part of the Algarve, Praia has lots of things for toddlers to do. There is a miniature train that goes across the marshland to the island of Ilha de Tavira, and then get yourself to the beach for some quality playtime with the kids. At the entrance of the beach is an anchor graveyard, where hundreds of anchors, rusted over time are placed in rows. When on the beach, you’ve got the chance to relax in one of the many restaurants and cafes.
The App: MyPostcard
The photo postcard app “MyPostcard” is a good match to show off the stunning locations and the beautiful beach in a postcard to a relative back home. The anchors and the marshland are great photo opportunities, especially with the amount of birds that frequent the marshland, you will be guaranteed a great photo or two!
The Place: Port de Soller, Majorca, Spain
For parents that are after some luxury for themselves as well as their offspring, Port de Soller is one of the best choices you can make. Near to the sea, this traditional Majorcan town is surrounded by masses of woodland and the Tramuntana Mountains, but there is also a beautiful beach for your little toddlers. As a place for more adult activates, Port de Soller is perfect. You could go walking or cycling or get a feel for the coastline by car. The hotel Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa has wonderful views of the town, and with the relaxed Pilates and yoga sessions on offer at the hotel, coupled with the spa facilities, every member of the family will enjoy their stay.
The App: Disposable Camera
For a true representation of the simpler life back in the 80s, this app is a real throwback to when you had a limited amount of photos to take, and there was no room for error! This app gives you 27 printable photos, like the old disposable cameras. Send the photos off for development after the “film” has been used up (with no filters), and you will actually have to wait 10 working days for delivery. Perfect for making actual memories of your family trip.

It’s funny how everything goes in cycles. With the advent of smartphones, many people stopped using cameras. Now there are apps to mimic cameras.

Spain looks absolutely beautiful and so historic! This sounds like a really neat app, too! Never heard of it before.
