Many of us dream of having a bigger home, but moving is just not always possible for many reasons. The housing market as it is now can price many people out of upgrading their homes, or things like family or work commitments can mean that you just have to stay put for the time being. However, that does not mean that you cannot enjoy a bigger home – you just have to get more creative when it comes to transforming the space you have! All it takes is a little bit of spare cash – you could consider refinance home loan to raise funds, or dip into any savings that you may have.
Knock down walls
Getting rid of a wall or two can turn smaller rooms into one larger one, which can be ideal for your living, dining, and kitchen areas. Converting several small rooms into one bigger one gives you the chance to have rooms that can function in a variety of ways – a living room can also be a space for children to play, the kitchen can be a dining and entertaining area and so on. Open plan living works really well for both bigger and smaller homes.
Add an extension
A home extension is one of the most obvious ways in which you can create additional space for your home. It may be an extension over your garage or extending out into the garden. It can give you more bedrooms, that much needed home office or just make the existing rooms even bigger. The great thing about an extension is that it can also add significant value to your home, which is excellent if you plan on selling further down the line.
Make your garden an extension of your home
If you can’t extend your house, look at how you can use your garden for more space. French doors and patio doors can really open up the space and are lovely in the summer months. A decking area for entertaining and relaxing is an affordable way of really utilizing that space, and if you need a home office or a playroom, you may want to consider a summer house.
Your garden has an incredible amount of potential, so don’t forget it when making those home improvements.
Get smart with home decor
Sometimes, planning regulations or budget restrictions mean that you can’t make any significant structural changes to your house, but there are some clever home decor tricks you can try to give your home a brighter and lighter look, and create the illusion of more space. The first thing to do is have a good declutter and get rid of anything that is not functional or sentimental, and make sure that everything has its own home. Decorate in light, bright colors, think about the way that you furnish it and use natural light and mirrors to make rooms look bigger.
When moving home isn’t an option, you can still make your home bigger. Renovations and smart home decor tricks can really change the way you use a space!
